The Calgary Flames dropped their seventh game in eight tries to start the season, falling 2-1 in overtime to the Montreal Canadiens on Wednesday.

Goaltender Dustin Wolf pointed to his team’s ongoing offensive struggles after the loss.

“I mean, I can’t generate offense,” Wolf told reporters, according to Sportsnet’s Eric Francis. “I do my job, I try to keep the puck out of our net, and hope that our guys can generate a couple.”

The Flames managed 37 shots on goal but couldn’t find the back of the net consistently. Calgary sits dead last in the NHL with just 12 goals scored through eight games.

“I’m glad we got one there. We got a point, but we’ve got to keep working to find more offense,” Wolf added.

Offensive Woes Continue

Calgary’s scoring problems aren’t new. The team ranked 29th in offense last season but nearly squeezed into the playoffs as a wild-card team.

Wolf’s rookie performance was a major reason for that near-miss. The 23-year-old posted a .910 save percentage across 53 starts and finished second in Calder Trophy voting.

This season tells a different story for Wolf. He’s struggled early with an .875 save percentage and 3.61 goals-against average through his first seven starts.

The combination of continued offensive struggles and Wolf’s early-season difficulties has put Calgary in a tough spot. They’re currently riding a seven-game losing streak.

The Flames face the Winnipeg Jets on Friday, looking to snap their current skid and find some offensive rhythm.
