The New Jersey Devils announced Wednesday that captain Nico Hischier will be week-to-week with an undisclosed injury.
The 25-year-old center was injured from a cross-check during Saturday’s overtime victory against the Montreal Canadiens. He sat out Monday’s game versus the Philadelphia Flyers after initially being listed as day-to-day.
Hischier has recorded 43 points in 51 games this season while averaging 20:12 of ice time. The Devils’ captain has also won 55.5% of his faceoffs.
This is another significant injury for New Jersey, which recently lost starting goaltender Jacob Markstrom for four-to-six weeks with a knee injury.
The Devils have five games scheduled before the league’s break for the 4 Nations Face-Off tournament from Feb. 9-22.
