The Boston Bruins announced that defenseman Charlie McAvoy was ruled out for the remainder of Saturday’s game against the Montreal Canadiens after taking a slap shot to the face.
McAvoy left the ice before the third period and didn’t return.

The 27-year-old had been averaging more than 24 minutes per game this season. He’s recorded 14 points in 18 games entering Saturday’s contest.
McAvoy missed significant time last season due to a shoulder injury.
The injury limited him to just 50 appearances after he was hurt during the 4 Nations Face-Off. He’s been a key part of Boston’s blue line when healthy.
