Seth Jarvis didn’t mince words when discussing his omission from Canada’s Olympic roster.
“Sometimes you gotta eat a shit sandwich and chew on it for a little bit,” the Carolina Hurricanes forward told team reporter Walt Ruff on Thursday. He was referencing a quote from former Hurricane Justin Williams. “It doesn’t taste good, but you move on.”
The 23-year-old has posted 19 goals and 29 points in 34 games this season. He hasn’t played since Dec. 19 due to a rib injury.
“Obviously, it’s something I really worked for and wanted to achieve, but there’s nothing you can do about it now. I gave myself a couple of days to take it in, feel emotions, and now it’s just move past it and get ready for the season.”
Jarvis referenced Williams’ memorable comment following a lopsided defeat during the 2019 Eastern Conference Final. Williams said at the time: “Sometimes you’ve got to eat a poop sandwich. It doesn’t taste good. You have to chew on it for a little bit.”
The forward is one of three players dropped from Canada’s 4 Nations Face-Off roster for the Olympics. Sam Bennett and Travis Konecny were also cut from the squad.
Hockey Canada instructed Jarvis to remain on standby in case of injuries, he told Ruff.
Jarvis tallied 32 goals and 67 points in 73 contests last season. He notched one assist in three games at the 4 Nations Face-Off in a fourth-line role.
The Hurricanes forward’s production this season puts him on pace for career-high numbers despite the recent injury absence.
