The Calgary Flames recalled top prospect Zayne Parekh from the OHL’s Saginaw Spirit, the team announced Tuesday.

Parekh was drafted ninth overall by the Flames last summer. The defenseman recorded 33 goals and 107 points in 61 games for the Spirit this season. He also had 96 penalty minutes and was a plus-42.

“I’m just taking it day by day and trying to enjoy the process,” the 19-year-old said, according to Sportsnet’s Pat Steinburg. “Whatever happens, happens. Whether I play or not, I’m going to be the number one supporter of this team.”

Parekh’s OHL campaign ended Saturday when the Erie Otters eliminated the Spirit in the first round of the playoffs.

He netted two goals and nine points in the five-game series.

Only two defensemen in OHL/OHA history have registered multiple 30-goal seasons: Bobby Orr and Parekh.

The 19-year-old could make his NHL debut Wednesday against the Anaheim Ducks.

He’ll be the fifth player from the 2024 draft to debut this season and the second defenseman, after Chicago Blackhawks’ second overall pick, Artyom Levshunov.
