A fan was hospitalized in critical condition after falling from the upper concourse during Monday night’s game between the Pittsburgh Penguins and St. Louis Blues at PPG Paints Arena.

The incident occurred early in the first period, shortly after Anthony Mantha’s goal gave the Penguins a 2-0 lead.

Emergency personnel treated the unidentified man before transporting him to Mercy Hospital, located just blocks from the arena. Pittsburgh police confirmed to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette that he’s in critical condition.

Play continued without interruption during the medical response.

“Our concerns remain with the individual and his family at this time,” the Penguins said in a statement.

The fall marks the third similar incident at a Pittsburgh sporting venue this year.

In May, Kavan Markwood fell over the railing atop the 21-foot-high Clemente Wall onto the field at PNC Park during a Pirates-Cubs game. Markwood spent several days hospitalized but recovered from his injuries.

An acquaintance was later charged with providing alcohol to Markwood, who was 20 at the time.

Saturday night brought another incident at Acrisure Stadium. A worker suffered leg injuries when he fell approximately 50 feet while working near the Steelers stadium’s scoreboard.
