The New York Islanders defeated the Tampa Bay Lightning 2-0, with Ilya Sorokin stopping all 32 shots for his third shutout of the season.
Sorokin’s performance tied a franchise milestone. The 29-year-old goaltender recorded his 25th career shutout, matching Glenn “Chico” Resch for most in Islanders history.
Calum Ritchie scored the game-winner in the third period. Casey Cizikas added an empty-net goal with two seconds remaining.
The Lightning lost their third straight game despite a solid effort from goaltender Jonas Johansson, who made 17 saves. Tampa Bay was shut out for the first time this season.
The Islanders also defeated Tampa Bay in New York on Tuesday.
Game-Winning Sequence
The decisive goal came during a four-minute power play opportunity. Brandon Hagel received a high-sticking double minor against Cizikas at 10:14 of the third period.
The call was upheld after video review.
Tony DeAngelo fired a shot from the point that deflected off Anders Lee. Ritchie collected the rebound off the end boards, put it between his legs, and chipped the puck past Johansson at 12:46.
Lightning Injury Updates
Tampa Bay captain Victor Hedman returned to the lineup after being activated from long-term injured reserve. The defenseman had missed 12 games with an undisclosed injury.
Andrei Vasilevskiy missed his second consecutive game with an undisclosed injury.
Leading scorer Nikita Kucherov was also sidelined with an undisclosed injury.
