The Edmonton Oilers signed forward David Tomasek to a one-year contract worth $1.2 million for the 2025-26 season, the team announced Wednesday.
Tomasek led the Swedish Hockey League in scoring this season with 24 goals and 57 points in 47 games for Farjestad. The 29-year-old also topped the SHL with 25 goals last year.
This marks Tomasek’s first NHL contract after an extensive European career.
The 6-foot-2, right-handed center played seven seasons in the Czech league, two in Finland, and part of a season in the KHL before joining the Swedish league in 2023.
Tomasek has represented Czechia at the past two World Championships, collecting one goal and four points in 10 games during last year’s gold medal run on home ice.
Edmonton general manager Stan Bowman traveled to Sweden during the 4 Nations Face-Off break to watch Tomasek play in person, according to Daily Faceoff’s Frank Seravalli.
The Czech forward previously played two seasons in North America with the OHL’s Belleville Bulls from 2013-15.
In a separate move Wednesday, the Oilers also signed undrafted free agent Josh Samanski to a two-year, entry-level contract beginning next season.
Samanski, a 6-foot-5 center, recorded 14 goals and 40 points in 52 games this season with the Straubing Tigers in Germany’s DEL.
The 23-year-old led Straubing in points and ranked tied for 23rd in league scoring.
Samanski competed at the Spengler Cup in December, tallying two goals and three points in five games as Straubing fell in the final against HC Fribourg-Gotteron.
Though born in Germany and representing the country internationally, Samanski holds Canadian citizenship. He played two seasons in Canada with the OJHL’s Brantford 99ers (2018-19) and the OHL’s Owen Sound Attack (2019-20).
