The Calgary Flames converted two power-play opportunities in a 5-4 victory over the Minnesota Wild at Xcel Energy Center.
Andrei Kuzmenko led the Flames with two goals and an assist. Rasmus Andersson scored on the power play, while Martin Pospisil and Clark Bishop added goals. Dustin Wolf made 21 saves.
The Wild’s Marc-Andre Fleury passed Patrick Roy for second place in NHL goaltender minutes played, reaching 60,215 minutes late in the second period. Fleury stopped 24 shots in the loss.
Joel Eriksson Ek, Marcus Foligno and Frederick Gaudreau scored for Minnesota. Marco Rossi recorded three assists.
Mats Zuccarello brought Minnesota within one goal with 27 seconds remaining, his 12th of the season.
Pospisil’s goal at 12:28 of the second period gave Calgary a 2-1 lead. It marked his third goal this season and first since scoring against Minnesota on Nov. 23.
The Flames dominated faceoffs, winning a season-best 60.3% of draws.
Minnesota’s penalty kill continues to struggle, allowing seven power-play goals in their last six games. The Wild entered the game with the NHL’s third-worst penalty kill.
The loss was Minnesota’s fifth in their last six games.
Both teams play Sunday – Calgary visits Winnipeg while Minnesota travels to Chicago.
