The Seattle Kraken re-signed defenseman Josh Mahura to a two-year extension worth $1.815 million total, the team announced Friday.

The deal carries an average annual value of $907,500 and keeps the 27-year-old blueliner in Seattle through the 2026-27 season.

Mahura appeared in 64 games for the Kraken this season. He recorded nine assists while averaging 13:45 of ice time per game.

The defenseman ranked sixth on the team with 89 hits. He also blocked 54 shots, placing him 10th among Kraken players.

Seattle outscored opponents 33-28 during Mahura’s five-on-five minutes, according to Natural Stat Trick.

“Josh was an important addition to our blue line last season,” general manager Jason Botterill said. “He plays an honest, physical game and rounded out our group of defensemen. He’s also a great teammate. We’re excited to bring him back for another two years.”

Mahura joined the Kraken last summer as an unrestricted free agent. He signed a one-year deal worth $775,000 after the Florida Panthers didn’t extend him a qualifying offer.

The defenseman spent two seasons with the Panthers. He won the Stanley Cup with Florida in 2024, though he didn’t play during the playoffs.

Mahura did see postseason action in 2023. He appeared in 21 playoff games during Florida’s run to the Stanley Cup Final, recording three assists in his first taste of playoff hockey.

The Anaheim Ducks selected Mahura in the third round of the 2016 draft.

He spent his first four NHL seasons with the Ducks before moving to Florida.

Mahura has totaled 54 points in 255 career NHL games.

The Kraken still need to address other roster decisions this offseason. Defenseman Ryker Evans remains a restricted free agent.
