Adin Hill stopped 22 shots as the Vegas Golden Knights opened the John Tortorella era with a 4-2 victory over the Vancouver Canucks.
The Golden Knights fired Bruce Cassidy one day earlier. Cassidy led the team to a Stanley Cup title in 2023.
Vegas treated its new coach to a come-from-behind win in his debut.
Rasmus Andersson, Shea Theodore, Reilly Smith and Cole Smith each scored for the Golden Knights. Evander Kane and Brock Boeser found the net for Vancouver.
Kevin Lankinen made 29 saves for the Canucks.
Tortorella coached Tampa Bay to the Stanley Cup in 2004. The 67-year-old met with players earlier that day as general manager Kelly McCrimmon hopes the veteran coach can reignite a locker room just three years removed from a championship.
The Golden Knights found their spark in the second period. Andersson tied the game midway through the frame to erase Vegas’s first one-goal deficit.
Theodore made it 2-2 five minutes after Boeser’s goal.
Reilly Smith scored the game-winner near the end of the third period. Cole Smith’s empty-netter provided the final margin.
Vegas entered Monday with a three-game losing streak. The Golden Knights opened their final eight-game stretch with a much-needed victory after losing six of their past seven games.
The team sits in third place in the Pacific Division, one point behind the Edmonton Oilers.
Vegas remains in playoff position despite recent struggles that saw them lose 12 of their past 17 games since the Olympic break. Tortorella has been signed for the remainder of this season and the playoffs.
