The Calgary Flames acquired forwards Joel Farabee and Morgan Frost from the Philadelphia Flyers in exchange for Andrei Kuzmenko, Jakob Pelletier, and two draft picks.
Flames GM Craig Conroy made the move with his team holding the second wild-card spot in the Western Conference.
“The team earned this move with their play through the first 50 games,” Conroy said.
Frost, 25, brings needed center depth to Calgary. He’s posted 40-50 points with strong defensive metrics in a middle-six role. The pending restricted free agent could either become a long-term piece or a valuable trade chip next season.
Farabee, 24, joins the Flames with three years remaining at $5 million annually. He recorded 22 goals and 50 points last season despite inconsistent play in Philadelphia.
The Flames parted with Kuzmenko, who scored just four goals in 37 games this season, and Pelletier, who has 21 points in 61 career NHL games.
For Philadelphia, the deal creates cap flexibility by moving Farabee’s contract. Kuzmenko becomes an unrestricted free agent after this season.
Pelletier, a 2019 first-round pick, showed scoring touch in the AHL but hasn’t secured a regular NHL role. The 5-foot-9 winger remains a restricted free agent.
The Flyers now hold seven picks in the first two rounds of the 2025 NHL Draft.
The move gives Calgary immediate help for their playoff push while maintaining future flexibility. Philadelphia adds draft capital but moves on from two young forwards who didn’t fit their plans under GM Daniel Briere.
Kuzmenko previously played with Flyers prospect Matvei Michkov in the KHL, potentially creating chemistry if both suit up for Philadelphia.
