The Anaheim Ducks signed forward Mikael Granlund to a three-year contract, the team announced Tuesday.

The deal carries an average annual value of $7 million, reports TSN’s Pierre LeBrun.

Granlund posted 22 goals and 44 assists in 83 games split between the San Jose Sharks and Dallas Stars last season. He added 10 points in 18 playoff appearances with Dallas.

It marked the fifth time Granlund reached the 60-point mark in his 13-year career.

The 33-year-old posted a career-high 69 points in 2016-17 with the Minnesota Wild. He’s capable of playing all three forward positions, giving the Ducks flexibility up front.

Granlund brings veteran leadership to a young forward group led by Mason McTavish, Leo Carlsson, and Cutter Gauthier. He’s now tied for the team’s highest-paid forward with Troy Terry.

Defenseman Jacob Trouba ($8 million) remains Anaheim’s top earner.

The Ducks still have $28.9 million left in cap space. However, McTavish and starting goaltender Lukas Dostal are restricted free agents who need new deals.

Contract Details

The signing gives Anaheim an experienced center who can also play wing when needed. Granlund’s $7 million cap hit represents a significant investment for a rebuilding team.

His playoff experience with Dallas last spring adds another dimension to Anaheim’s forward corps. The Ducks haven’t made the playoffs since 2018.
