The Montreal Canadiens beat the Boston Bruins 3-2 in overtime Tuesday night, with Cole Caufield scoring the winner at 4:38 of the extra period.
Caufield tapped home a pass from Nick Suzuki for his 40th goal of the season. He’s the first Canadien to reach 40 goals since Vincent Damphousse in 1993-94.

Suzuki and Josh Anderson also scored for Montreal. Goaltender Jakub Dobes made 26 saves as the Canadiens snapped a two-game losing streak.
Brendan Gallagher picked up an assist in his 900th NHL game. He’s played every one of those games for Montreal.
Pavel Zacha scored both goals for Boston. Jeremy Swayman stopped 28 shots in the loss.
The teams entered Tuesday’s game with Montreal sitting third in the Atlantic Division, one point ahead of Boston with a game in hand.
Early Power Play Success
Zacha opened the scoring on the power play just 2:22 into the first period. Alexandre Carrier took a double-minor for high-sticking, putting Montreal down a man for four minutes. Zacha shoveled home a backhand during the extended penalty kill.
Suzuki tied it at 10:30 with a smooth move to his backhand. Juraj Slafkovsky fed him a pass in front of the net, and Suzuki beat Swayman cleanly.
Second Period Back-and-Forth
Zacha struck again five minutes into the second period for his second goal of the night.
Defensive confusion between Montreal’s Lane Hutson and Oliver Kapanen left the Bruins center alone in front of the net. Zacha tipped Viktor Arvidsson’s pass past Dobes.
Anderson answered for Montreal at 13:15 of the second period. He deflected Hutson’s point shot to even the score again at 2-2.
David Pastrnak extended his point streak against Montreal to 14 games with an assist. That ties Bobby Orr’s franchise record for the longest point streak by a Bruins player against the Canadiens.
