Capitals goaltender Logan Thompson exited Wednesday’s game against the Metropolitan Division rival Hurricanes with an upper-body injury and did not return.
Thompson surrendered three goals on 12 shots in the opening period before backup Charlie Lindgren took over between the pipes. Head coach Spencer Carbery told reporters Thompson will undergo evaluation when the team returns to Washington, according to NHL.com’s Tom Gulitti.
The Capitals host the Chicago Blackhawks on Friday night.
Thompson has posted a 31-5-6 record this season with a .912 save percentage.
The 27-year-old netminder signed a six-year contract extension with Washington in January during his first season with the club. The Capitals acquired Thompson from Vegas during the offseason.
Washington currently holds a nine-point lead in the Metropolitan Division with seven games remaining in the regular season.
