Brandon Bussi stopped 16 shots for his second career shutout as the Carolina Hurricanes defeated the New York Rangers 2-0. The win extended Carolina’s points streak to 10 games.
Andrei Svechnikov gave Carolina an early 1-0 lead in the first period.
Jordan Staal sealed the victory with an empty-net goal with 54 seconds remaining. The game marked the final contest for both teams before the Olympic break.
The Eastern Conference-leading Hurricanes are 8-0-2 since Jan. 16. They’re 12-1-3 since Jan. 4.
Jonathan Quick made a season-high 41 saves for the Rangers. New York was shut out for the ninth time this season and seventh at home.
The Rangers have lost four straight games.
Svechnikov scored 6:26 into the first period on a wrist shot. Mark Jankowski recorded the assist on the game-winner.
Bussi has won his last seven starts. The rookie goaltender made Svechnikov’s early goal stand up for the remainder of the contest.
His first career shutout came on Nov. 30, 2025, when he stopped 15 shots against Calgary.
