The Dallas Stars and Minnesota Wild have expressed interest in New York Islanders center Brock Nelson, according to The Athletic’s Pierre LeBrun.

Nelson, a pending unrestricted free agent, has recorded 12 goals and 13 assists in 42 games this season for the Islanders, who sit 15th in the Eastern Conference.

The 33-year-old center has reached the 20-goal mark eight times in his 12 NHL seasons, including at least 34 goals in each of the last three campaigns.

Nelson’s playoff experience includes 27 goals in 78 postseason games.

His current contract includes a 16-team no-trade list and carries a $6-million cap hit.

The Stars can accommodate Nelson’s contract by placing Tyler Seguin on long-term injured reserve. Seguin will miss three to five more months following December hip surgery.

Nelson would join the Stars’ center group of Roope Hintz, Matt Duchene, and Wyatt Johnston.

The 6-foot-4 center ranks among the top players expected to be available before the 2025 trade deadline.
