The Buffalo Sabres announced their 10th consecutive victory Wednesday night, defeating the Dallas Stars 4-1 behind Tage Thompson’s two goals and an assist.
Thompson scored twice within 2 1/2 minutes midway through the third period to seal the win. The streak matches both the franchise record and the longest for any NHL team this season.
Colorado also reached 10 games in November.
Josh Doan and defenseman Bowen Byram each contributed a goal and an assist. Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen made 28 saves in his third start during the streak, allowing just one goal in each appearance.
The victory extended Buffalo’s road winning streak to seven games, the longest in the league this season.
Mavrik Bourque scored for Dallas, which entered the game second in the overall NHL standings. The Stars had their six-game point streak snapped at 4-0-2.
Casey DeSmith stopped 27 shots for Dallas and lost in regulation for the first time since Oct. 16. DeSmith’s franchise-record 13-game point streak ended at 9-0-4.
Byram’s goal with 2:55 left in the second period broke a 1-1 tie.
Bourque opened the scoring just 15 seconds into the game on the opening shift, putting in a rebound. Two of Bourque’s six goals this season have come in the last four games.
Buffalo hasn’t trailed after two periods during the streak. The Sabres have led eight times and been tied twice heading into the final frame.
Thompson extended Buffalo’s lead to 9:21 of the third period, then added his team-high 20th goal with 8:25 remaining.
Sabres goalie Alex Lyon returned to Buffalo for further evaluation after suffering a lower-body injury late in Monday’s win at St. Louis. Lyon has earned seven wins during the current streak.
Doan’s goal ended his eight-game goalless drought.
