The Buffalo Sabres announced a 10-year naming rights extension with KeyBank, keeping the arena’s name as KeyBank Center through the 2035-36 season.
The new deal begins next year and extends the Cleveland-based bank’s partnership with the downtown Buffalo venue. KeyBank took over naming rights in 2016 after acquiring First Niagara Bank, which previously held the rights.
KeyBank’s name will appear on Sabres helmets for away games starting this season as part of the extended agreement.
The bank maintains a large regional presence in western New York, making the partnership a natural fit for both organizations.
Arena Renovations Continue
The venue has undergone significant improvements since opening in 1996. Last year, the Sabres replaced the roof and installed a new video scoreboard over center ice.
The next phase of renovations will focus on upgrading seats and fan amenities throughout the building.
The Sabres control the facility, which also serves as home to the Buffalo Bandits. The Bandits won their third consecutive National Lacrosse League championship last season.
Expanding Event Portfolio
Team officials have emphasized bringing more events to the arena since Pete Guelli took over as chief operating officer last year.
Paul McCartney will perform at KeyBank Center in November as part of his 20-stop North American tour.
The venue will also host a pre-Olympic women’s hockey Rivalry Series game between the United States and Canada.
These events represent the type of high-profile attractions the organization wants to secure moving forward.
On-Ice Struggles Continue
The Sabres face ongoing challenges on the ice. The team currently endures an NHL-record playoff drought that’s stretched 14 seasons.
The naming rights extension provides stability and additional revenue as the franchise works to rebuild its competitive standing in the league.
