The Dallas Stars top Seth Jones’ trade wishlist if the Chicago Blackhawks accommodate his request to be moved, according to The Athletic’s Pierre LeBrun.
Jones recently confirmed discussing a potential trade with Blackhawks management, expressing his desire to join a Stanley Cup contender at this stage of his career. Any deal faces significant hurdles due to Jones’ full no-move clause and $9.5-million cap hit that runs through 2028.
The 30-year-old defenseman, a Dallas native, has publicly criticized the Blackhawks’ performance this season.
“We’re the exact same team right now as we were game one,” Jones said after Tuesday’s loss to Utah, per Ben Pope of the Chicago Sun-Times. “It’s pretty evident out there. We haven’t made any strides to be a better, more simple hockey team, and it shows. We don’t get a lot of wins because of that.
“This has been almost four years of bottom of the league, so it’s not just this year – for me at least.”
Jones has recorded 27 points in 41 games this season while averaging 24:31 of ice time.
The Stars are seeking defensive reinforcements before the March 7 trade deadline.
Dallas currently has approximately $4.6 million in deadline cap space, according to PuckPedia.
