The New York Islanders plan to interview Jarmo Kekalainen, Marc Bergevin, and Mathieu Darche for their general manager vacancy, reports TSN’s Pierre LeBrun.

The Islanders announced in April they won’t renew veteran GM and president of hockey operations Lou Lamoriello’s contract. His deal expires June 30, though he’s expected to remain with the organization in some capacity, sources told The Athletic’s Arthur Staple.

Kekalainen served as GM of the Columbus Blue Jackets from 2013 to 2024, leading the team to five playoff appearances.

The Finnish executive made history as the NHL’s first European GM. Before Columbus, he worked in the Ottawa Senators’ and St. Louis Blues’ front offices.

Bergevin held the GM position with the Montreal Canadiens from 2012 to 2021. Under his leadership, the Canadiens reached the postseason six times.

The Canadiens made a surprising run to the 2021 Stanley Cup Final during Bergevin’s tenure.

He currently works as an adviser for the Los Angeles Kings and is reportedly also being considered for their GM position.

Darche has never served as an NHL GM but has been a candidate in multiple hiring cycles. He currently serves as assistant GM and director of hockey operations for the Tampa Bay Lightning, a role he’s held since 2019.

During his time with Tampa Bay, the Lightning won back-to-back Stanley Cups in 2020 and 2021.

The Islanders have already interviewed Ken Holland for the position. The Hall of Fame executive is also reportedly expected to be hired by the Kings.
