Team Canada defenseman Josh Morrissey left Thursday’s win over Czechia with an injury and didn’t return to action.
The Winnipeg Jets blue-liner departed in the second period. It’s unclear how he suffered the injury.
Head coach Jon Cooper didn’t have an update on Morrissey’s status postgame.
Morrissey was playing on Canada’s second defensive pairing with Colton Parayko. Shea Theodore took his place after starting the game as Canada’s seventh defenseman.
Travis Sanheim was a healthy scratch for the opener. He’d likely dress Friday against Switzerland if Morrissey can’t play.
Canada can’t add an injury replacement to the roster now that the tournament has started.
Season Performance
Morrissey has recorded 42 points in 56 games with the Jets this season.
He’s finished no lower than seventh in Norris Trophy voting in each of the last three years. The award goes to the NHL’s top defenseman.
Canada won its tournament opener 5-0 over Czechia.
