Brad Marchand teased the possibility of signing with the Toronto Maple Leafs on Friday through an Instagram comment that’s got hockey fans talking.

The pending unrestricted free agent responded to a post from The Leafs Nation quoting Sportsnet’s Nick Kypreos, who said, "I don’t know how (Marchand) doesn’t end up a Maple Leaf."

“Shit dawg … The people wanna see it???”

Marchand’s been in full troll mode since Thursday. He thanked other NHL teams on his Instagram story for helping the Florida Panthers assemble their Stanley Cup-winning roster.

The comment comes as no surprise to anyone who’s followed the 37-year-old winger’s career.

Marchand’s been nightmare fuel for Leafs fans for years. He’s won five Game 7s against Toronto, including in the second round of this year’s playoffs when Florida eliminated the Maple Leafs.

Contract Status and Performance

Marchand becomes an unrestricted free agent July 1. The veteran forward recorded 23 goals and 51 points in 71 regular-season games this past season.

He was even better in the postseason.

Marchand notched 10 goals and 20 points in 23 playoff games. He scored six goals in the Cup Final alone, helping Florida capture their first Stanley Cup championship.

The former Boston Bruin spent 16 seasons with the Bruins before joining the Panthers. At 37, he’s proven he can still produce at an elite level when it matters most.

Whether Marchand’s Instagram activity represents genuine interest in Toronto or just another example of his legendary trolling remains to be seen. Free agency opens July 1, and the Maple Leafs will need to clear significant cap space to make a competitive offer.

The idea of Marchand in a Leafs uniform would certainly be one of the more surprising storylines of the upcoming free agency period.
