The Los Angeles Kings announced Saturday they’ve signed restricted free agent forward Alex Laferriere to a three-year contract worth $4.1 million annually.
Laferriere was the Kings’ biggest unsigned player heading into the offseason. His entry-level contract expired after last season.
The 23-year-old will become a restricted free agent again when this deal ends in 2028.
Laferriere scored 19 goals and added 22 assists in 77 games last season. He averaged 16:32 of ice time per game.
He contributed three assists in six playoff games as Los Angeles fell to the Edmonton Oilers in the first round. It marked the fourth straight year the Kings lost in the opening round.
The team brought in Ken Holland as general manager following the playoff elimination.
Holland’s made several moves in his first summer running the Kings. He’s signed Corey Perry, Cody Ceci, and Brian Dumoulin.
The Laferriere signing addresses one of the team’s key offseason priorities. At 23, he’s entering what should be his prime years as a player.
His 41 points last season represented solid production for a young forward still developing his game. The three-year term gives both sides flexibility while providing security.
The Kings are hoping Holland’s veteran additions can help push them past the first round next spring.
