Carolina Hurricanes forward Taylor Hall scored three goals in the third period for his sixth career hat trick, powering the team to a 5-2 victory over the Anaheim Ducks on Sunday night at Honda Center.

Hall’s hat trick included a power-play goal early in the third period followed by two more goals just 49 seconds apart late in the frame, with the final tally finding an empty net. It marked the former No. 1 overall draft pick’s second hat trick this season, but only his second since 2013.

The Hurricanes bounced back quickly after their eight-game winning streak ended the previous night in Los Angeles.

Carolina finished its California road trip with a 3-1-0 record.

Mark Jankowski continued his hot streak, scoring his sixth goal in seven games since joining Carolina. Jordan Martinook also found the net for the Hurricanes.

Frederik Andersen stopped 35 shots against his former team.

Trevor Zegras scored with 3:23 remaining to bring Anaheim within one goal at 3-2 before Hall secured the victory with his final two tallies.

Alex Killorn recorded his 17th goal of the season for the Ducks. Goaltender Lukas Dostal made 32 saves in the loss.

The defeat marked Anaheim’s seventh in their last 10 games as they opened a five-game homestand.

Game Notes

Jankowski, acquired in a trade with Nashville, scored his 10th goal of the season on a deflection midway through the second period. The forward has made an immediate impact since joining the Hurricanes.

Martinook put Carolina ahead 2-1 just 93 seconds after Killorn’s goal, scoring his 13th of the season during a scramble in front of the net.

Andersen has won five consecutive starts since March 1, allowing only eight goals while splitting goaltending duties with Pyotr Kochetkov.

The Ducks remain in 12th place in the Western Conference, with their playoff drought likely to reach seven seasons.

The Hurricanes return home to host Nashville on Tuesday, while the Ducks continue their homestand against Boston on Wednesday.
