The Utah Mammoth dominated the Toronto Maple Leafs 6-1, with Dylan Guenther recording two goals and an assist in Tuesday’s blowout victory.
Jack McBain added a goal and two assists for Utah. The win extended the Mammoth’s point streak to 4-0-1 at home.
Daniil But, JJ Peterka and Michael Carcone each contributed a goal and an assist. Ian Cole picked up two assists while Barrett Hayon added one assist.
Karel Vejmelka made 19 saves to earn his NHL-leading 21st win of the season.
Calle Jarnkrok scored Toronto’s only goal. The loss snapped the Maple Leafs’ four-game winning streak and 10-game point streak.
Dennis Hildeby finished with 34 saves in the losing effort.
Guenther Sets Franchise Record
Guenther scored his two goals just 1:18 apart early in the second period. The quick strikes marked the fastest back-to-back goals by a single player in Mammoth franchise history.
The goals pushed Utah’s lead to 3-0. Guenther leads the team with 23 goals this season.
Peterka extended the lead to 4-0 with 4½ minutes remaining in the second period.
Jarnkrok spoiled Vejmelka’s shutout bid 3:30 into the third period. McBain and But scored 3:25 apart late in the third to cap the scoring.
Early Action
Michael Carcone opened the scoring 3:22 into the game. He fired a one-timer off a cross-ice pass from Nate Schmidt.
Carcone, who grew up just north of Toronto, has scored Utah’s opening goal in the last three matchups between these teams.
Sean Durzi suffered a cut on his face after colliding with Auston Matthews in the second period. He returned to skate in the third period.
Late in the first period, But appeared to score but officials whistled for a face-off while the puck was still free.
