The Vegas Golden Knights lost captain Mark Stone to an upper-body injury during their 5-0 loss to the Pittsburgh Penguins on Sunday.
Stone left the game after Penguins defenseman Kris Letang gave him what appeared to be a routine shove with his stick in the neutral zone late in the first period. The contact may have caught Stone in the gap between his elbow and shoulder pads.
Stone grimaced in pain, dropped to one knee and skated off the ice. He didn’t return to the game.

Injury Update Expected Monday
Golden Knights coach Bruce Cassidy said Stone will likely travel with the team to Buffalo. He expects to have more details on Monday.
“He was getting looked at,” Cassidy said. “Upper body is all I was told, and we’ll see where it lands.”
The 33-year-old winger has dealt with injuries throughout his NHL career. He suffered a wrist injury earlier this season and has never played all 82 games since becoming a full-time player with Ottawa in 2014-15.
Team Impact
Cassidy didn’t want to use Stone’s departure as an excuse for the shutout loss.
“Mark’s had some injuries before, so guys are concerned for him — rightfully so,” Cassidy said. “I think that would be the biggest effect: Is he OK, or did he reinjure something he’s had in the past? Everybody’s kind of worried about that.”
Stone leads Vegas with 60 points in 43 games this season, making him the team’s second-leading scorer.
He recently helped Canada reach the Olympic final before losing to the United States in overtime.
