Capitals forward Aliaksei Protas is week-to-week with a lower-body injury, head coach Spencer Carbery announced Sunday, according to Monumental Sports Network’s Tarik El-Bashir.
The 24-year-old Belarusian suffered the injury early in the third period of Washington’s 5-3 win over the Chicago Blackhawks on Friday. Protas was cut on the foot with a skate blade and needed assistance leaving the ice while favoring his left leg.

Protas has emerged as a key contributor for the Capitals this season, ranking third on the team with 30 goals and 66 points in 76 games.
He’s significantly improved from last season when he posted 6 goals and 29 points.
The forward recorded two shots on goal in 11:39 of ice time before exiting Friday’s game.
Washington has six games remaining in the regular season, which concludes April 17 against the Pittsburgh Penguins.
Forward Anthony Beauvillier will replace Protas in the lineup when the Capitals face the New York Islanders at 12:30 p.m. ET Sunday.
