Multiple teams are pursuing Minnesota Wild center Marco Rossi, with the Vancouver Canucks and Calgary Flames leading the interest, according to The Athletic’s Pierre LeBrun.
The Canucks have stronger interest in the restricted free agent than Calgary. The Flames prefer adding a center with more size, LeBrun reports.
Rossi recorded career highs with 24 goals and 60 points in 80 games this season.
Despite his regular season success, the 5-foot-9 center found himself relegated to Minnesota’s fourth line during the playoffs. He averaged 18:15 of ice time per game in the regular season but just 11:08 in the postseason. Rossi managed two goals and three points in six playoff contests.
The 23-year-old becomes a restricted free agent on July 1.
Rossi established himself as an NHL regular in 2023-24 when he recorded 21 goals and 40 points. He finished sixth in Calder Trophy voting that season. Minnesota selected him ninth overall in the 2020 draft.
Both Western Conference teams are seeking a young, second-line center. Rossi fits that profile after his breakout campaign, LeBrun adds.
Wild general manager Bill Guerin confirmed earlier this month he’s received calls about Rossi’s availability.
Evolving-Hockey projects Rossi to sign either a two-year bridge contract with a $4.7-million cap hit or a maximum eight-year extension at $7.7 million annually.
