The St. Louis Blues announced Tuesday they’ve signed forward Milan Lucic to a professional tryout contract.
The 37-year-old forward last appeared in the NHL during the 2023-24 season with the Boston Bruins. He recorded two assists in four games before taking an indefinite leave from the team.
Lucic’s absence followed his arrest on charges related to an alleged domestic incident involving his wife.
He entered a not guilty plea to assault and battery charges in November 2023. The charges were dropped in February 2024 after his wife declined to testify in the case.
During his time away from hockey, Lucic participated in the NHL/NHLPA player assistance program. He completed the program successfully, leading to his reinstatement by the league.
Career Background
Lucic brings significant NHL experience to St. Louis’s training camp. He’s appeared in 1,177 games across 17 seasons with Boston, Los Angeles, Edmonton, and Calgary.
His career totals include 586 points and 1,301 penalty minutes.
The veteran forward won a Stanley Cup championship with the Bruins in 2011. He’s known primarily for his physical style of play and veteran presence in the locker room.
The professional tryout gives Lucic an opportunity to earn a roster spot with the Blues for the upcoming season. It also allows St. Louis to evaluate whether his experience fits their team’s needs without making a contract commitment.
Training camp will determine if the veteran forward can secure a role with his fifth NHL organization.
