The Columbus Blue Jackets announced Wednesday they have signed forward Mathieu Olivier to a six-year contract extension with an average annual value of $3 million.

Olivier’s new deal includes a 10-team no-trade clause, according to TSN’s Pierre LeBrun.

The 28-year-old was a pending unrestricted free agent earning $1.1 million this season, according to PuckPedia.

Damon Severson is the only other Blue Jackets player signed through the 2030-31 season.

Olivier has set career highs across the board this season with 12 goals and 21 points in 61 games.

He ranks second in the NHL with 232 hits while averaging 14:26 of ice time per game.

The Blue Jackets acquired Olivier in a June 2022 trade with the Nashville Predators. He’s now in his third season with Columbus.

Nashville originally signed him as an undrafted free agent in 2018, and he made his NHL debut the following year with the Predators.

Olivier holds the distinction of being the first Mississippi-born player in NHL history and the first player born in the Gulf Coast region to play for Nashville. He was born in Biloxi while his father, Simon, played for the ECHL’s Mississippi Sea Wolves.
