Colorado Avalanche general manager Chris MacFarland confirmed that Jared Bednar will remain as head coach despite the team’s first-round playoff elimination against the Dallas Stars.
“One hundred percent confident, Jared’s our head coach,” MacFarland said Tuesday, per DNVR Sports.
The Avalanche blew a 2-0 third-period lead in Saturday’s Game 7. Dallas forward Mikko Rantanen scored a hat trick to fuel the Stars’ comeback.
The defeat dropped Bednar’s Game 7 record to 0-4.
Colorado has now lost seven consecutive winner-take-all playoff games.
Following the elimination, the team fired power-play coach Ray Bennett after the Avalanche went just 3-for-22 with the man advantage in the postseason.
Bednar has been behind the Avalanche bench since the 2016-17 season. After a difficult first year where the team posted a .293 points percentage, he’s led Colorado to eight straight playoff appearances and captured the Stanley Cup in 2022.
The Avalanche have won only one playoff series since their championship run.
