The Tampa Bay Lightning announced that Tyler Johnson retired Monday after a 13-year NHL career that included two Stanley Cup championships.

Johnson helped the Lightning capture back-to-back Cups in 2020 and 2021. He also led Tampa Bay to the final in 2015, where he topped the postseason with 13 goals and tied for the playoff lead with 23 points.

His breakout season came in 2014-15.

The 24-year-old center racked up 29 goals with a career-high 72 points in 77 games. He anchored Tampa Bay’s “Triplets” line alongside Nikita Kucherov and Ondrej Palat.

Johnson recorded 193 goals and 433 points in 747 career NHL games. The 5-foot-9 center spent nine seasons with the Lightning before moving to the Chicago Blackhawks for three years.

He played nine games with the Boston Bruins in 2024-25 before the team released him.

The Lightning signed Johnson as an undrafted free agent out of the WHL following his junior career with his hometown Spokane Chiefs. He won the Memorial Cup with Spokane in 2008.

Johnson’s amateur success included gold at the 2010 World Junior Championship with Team USA. He also captured the 2012 Calder Cup with the AHL’s Norfolk Admirals before making his mark in Tampa Bay.
